NYK secures long-term LNG carrier charter from EDF LNG

Japan’s NYK Line has signed a contract with EDF LNG Shipping, a subsidiary of Electricité de France (EDF), to charter out a LNG carrier newbuilding for seven years, with options available for up to 13 additional years.

The 174,000 cu m vessel will be built by South Korean yard Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries and is due to be delivered on April 30, 2020.

“NYK Group will continue its efforts to provide stable energy transport services all over the world through long-term contracts for business with stable freight rates,” NYK said in a release.

The NYK Group operates a total of 18 LNG carriers in its fleet and in joint ventures, while it also has another seven LNG carriers under construction.
