OceanGold bags bargain Japanese MR tanker

Japan’s Masumoto Shipping has sold a pump room type MR tanker called Mermaid Express to OceanGold of Greece for a price Clarkson Research reports is in the low $9ms.

“Pricing is in line with current market expectations, but highlights the fall in values over the course of the year when we consider that in January, Pacific Carriers were able to achieve $13m for their 2001 built Alam Budi,” Clarkson Research noted in its most recent weekly report.

The acquisition of the Japanese ship pushes the OceanGold fleet into double figures for the first time, just ahead of its 10th anniversary next year.
