OceanSaver: Ballast water treatment market to remain “commercially challenging”

Drammen: Ballast water treatment systems (BWTSs), once sensationally expensive, now a fraction of the price they were just two or three years ago, will continue to remain comparatively cheap for the coming couple of years, says the ceo of one of the leading BWTS manufacturers.
Houtan Houshangi, ceo of OceanSaver, tells Maritime CEO: “The BWT market has been and will continue to be commercially challenging during the next two to three years as global regulations have not yet entered fully into force whilst the competitive landscape is increasing.”
The BWTS sector has seen a bewildering choice of new technologies competing for shipowners’ attention in recent years as international regulations set in. On why OceanSaver is different, Houshangi maintains: “Our technology leverages a highly efficient and reliable filtration process followed by a patented membrane electrolysis process for the generation of oxidants which are injected through a side stream. Compliance is at the top of our agenda and we offer shipowners a peace of mind solution through our extensive approvals.”
This year and next OceanSaver, now entering its eleventh year of operations, will introduce several new features to its system.  [16/01/14]
