Oman makes Gulf gateway claims

Muscat: Oman’s minister of transport and communications Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Futaisi gave a speech at the beginning of the GCC Supply Chain and Logistics Services Conference yesterday in which he discussed plans to make the country a greater transport gateway to the region. He explained that the road network is still in the process of expansion and that soon it will link the Sultanate of Oman with Saudi Arabia. Futaisi added that Port Sultan Qaboos will be upgraded so that it can receive cruiseships.

Seperately, the general secretary of the foreign affairs ministry Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi said the country was in the midst of upgrading its rail links to make cargo movements smoother.  [16/04/13]
