Houston-based OneSubsea, a subsidiary of Schlumberger, has been awarded a contract to work on BP’s Mad Dog 2 deep-water oil project in the Gulf of Mexico.
OneSubsea’s contract is for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of a subsea production system.
In December BP (which is a majority partner in the project along with Chevron and BHP Billiton) committed $9bn to the Mad Dog 2 development, which is expected to produce up to 140,000 barrels of crude per day.
The development is about 190 miles south of New Orleans.
OneSubsea’s collaborator in the Subsea Integration Alliance, Norway’s Subsea 7, has also been awarded a contract for other aspects of the project.
