Pan-Arab rail connectivity discussed

Cairo: Arab transport ministers closed their meeting at Alexandria yesterday vowing to look closely at the idea of building a rail network linking all Arabic-speaking countries in the region.

The first part of this ambitious project will see an ambitious land bridge between Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

The Saudi minister for transport called on the other 21 ministers attending to look at expanding this rail connectivity across the region, something that could have significant repercussions for intra-regional maritime trade.  [23/10/13]
