Panama Canal Authority in for suezmax tanker charter

San Francisco: The Panama Canal Authority (PCA) is in the market for a suezmax tanker to be used for training purposes. The PCA wants the vessel on a time charter basis for a period of three months beginning in January 2016.

It would be used for training pilots, tug masters and line handlers in the canal’s Atlantic waters.

But such things don’t come cheap as the going rate for chartering a suezmax tanker for short-term periods is currently around $45,000 per day.

The PCA’s requirements include an option to extend the charter period for an additional three months. The vessel should be no older than 10 years and preferably Panama flagged.
