Pelindo II settles dispute over Jakarta pilgrimage site

Jakarta: A local hurdle has been crossed in the ongoing expansion of Jakarta’s Tanjung Priok port. Pelindo II, the port operator, has come to an agreement with the heirs of the revered figure Mbah Priok whereby his tomb, which lies on land owned by Pelindo II, will not be dismantled. Instead, Pelindo II will help make his tomb into a pilgrimage site, constructing a 400 m access road to the tomb as well as a parking lot for pilgrims.  Mbah Priok was a famous 18th century Islamic figure in the archipelago. The dispute between his heirs and the port stretches back to 1997.  [10/07/13]
