Pelni looks at LNG as a ship fuel

Jakarta: PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas), a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas giant PT Pertamina, is looking to get into sales of LNG as a ship fuel.

Pertagas has fixed a deal with state-owned shipping firm PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Pelni) over its plan to conduct a study on the possible use of LNG for the latter’s vessels.

“We want to make this agreement a breakthrough in [promoting] the usage of LNG. Pertagas is quite confident in the marine industry after our successful [collaboration] with the mining industry,” Pertagas president director Hendra Jaya said.
Pelni president director Syahril Japarin said: “We are hoping for a positive result from the study so that other sea transportation companies will use LNG in the future.”   [08/04/14]
