Kuala Lumpur: Malaysian offshore firm Perisai Petroleum Teknologi has announced that is has entered into a contract today with PPL Shipyard, part of Sembmarine, for the construction of a jack-up drilling rig.
The rig is the third of a series of rigs ordered by Perisai at PPL, with Perisai Pacific 101 and Pacific 102 ordered in May 2012 and February 2013. The new rig will be of the same design with some enhancements.
The price for construction is a fixed lump sum of $211.5m, with an initial 20% paid upfront and the balance on delivery which is expected by the third quarter of 2016.
Perisai says the Pacific Class 400 series rig will help it to enhance economies of scale to meet the strengthening global demand for jackup drilling rigs. [31/12/13]
