Petronas charters newbuild LNG carriers under construction at Hudong Zhonghua

Malaysia’s state-owned energy giant Petronas has signed charter contracts for two 79,900 cu m newbuild LNG carriers to be built at CSSC-affiliated Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding.

The vessel have been ordered by an undisclosed Chinese owner, and Splash understands the owner is likely CSSC Shipping.

The contract follows Hudong Zhonghua secured an AIP from ABS for the vessel design in December.

The LNG dual-fuel vessels, are designed to operate in shallow river and coastal waters and will be used to transport LNG from Petronas’ Malaysian LNG (MLNG) project to China as part of an LNG purchase and supply agreement Petronas signed with Shanghai’s Shenergy.
