Philippines president vows to safeguard officers’ future

Manila: The president of the Philippines, Benigno Aquino, has wade into the current impasse between the European Union and Philippine manning institutes vowing personally to safeguard the jobs of up to 5,000 officers who are under threat should from an audit last October by the European Maritime Safety Agency, the results of which are due soon. 

Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) administrator Maximo Mejia Jr told local media that the European assessors had been “quite happy” with what they saw on their checks of local training institutes and that the president of the Philippines had taken a personal interest in ensuring the audit was a success.  [10/02/14]
