Pirates strike tanker off Malaysia’s Palau Tioman

Kuala Lumpur: The IMB Piracy Reporting Centre has reported a piracy attack on an unidentified tanker just 12nm off Malaysia's Pulau Tioman island yesterday.

The brief said that about eight pirates, armed with guns and knives, boarded the tanker and forced the entire crew into the mess room where they were tied up. The pirates stole the cash and property of the crew and ship over a period of one hour.

No injuries were sustained by the crew who regained control of the vessel and sailed to Kemaman port. [11/07/13]
