Plans for Suez Canal economic corridor progress

Cairo: The government has created a bill to develop the Suez Canal corridor. It will be referred to the legislative ministerial group for review then on to the cabinet.

The bill provides the establishment of a general authority for developing the Suez Canal corridor. This authority will be affiliated to the president of the republic.

The 190 km corridor project aims to turn the Suez Canal banks into a global economic zone, aiming to become a bridge between Asia and Africa.

Minister of Housing Dr Tareq Wafiq and Minister of Transport Hatem Abdel Latif will make a review of the project before the second conference on investment in Egypt which will be inaugurated today by Prime Minister Dr Hisham Qandil.  [24/03/13]
