Pola Maritime bulker refloated after grounding in North Carolina

A bulker owned by Pola Maritime that ran aground on Thursday afternoon near Fort Macon in North Carolina was successfully refloated and moved to a nearby terminal by late evening.

The Pola Palekh, carrying a cargo of fertilizer, ran aground in Beaufort Inlet Channel leading to the temporary closure of all commercial traffic in the channel.

Tugboats helped move the ship from shoaling and accompanied it to Morehead City State Terminal.

No injuries or pollution were reported and the Pola Palekh appeared not to have sustained serious damage.
