Polaris Shipping orders capesize bulker at Waigaoqiao

South Korean owner Polaris Shipping has placed an order at China’s CSSC-affiliated Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding for the construction of an 180,000 dwt capesize bulk carrier.

The order is part of Polaris Shipping’s ongoing fleet expansion plan, with another 18 newbuildings under construction at Hyundai Heavy Industry and one under construction at Daehan Shipbuilding.

South Korean owners have been choosing Chinese yards more and more due to pricing despite the South Korean government calling for domestic owners to place orders locally.

This week, another South Korean owner Sinokor placed an order at China’s Jinhai Intellient Manufacturing for up to twenty 208,000 dwt bulk carriers.
