Port Everglades gets go-ahead for $437.5m expansion

Port Everglades in south Florida has received the green light from local commissioners in Broward County so it can begin a $437.5m upgrade project.

Improvements will include additional berths – as many as five – and crane rail infrastructure for super post-panamax cranes.

These works will allow the port to handle the larger vessels that are heading to US East Coast ports.

While Port Everglades is well known as a cruise port it is the busiest container port in the state and a major port for receiving petroleum products and alternative fuels.
