Port of Auckland container terminal remains closed for the second day

The container terminal at the port of Auckland remained closed for a second day today as investigations into an accident yesterday continue.

The terminal was closed on Monday after a port worker was severely injured in a straddle carrier accident. The worker remains in a critical condition.

Matt Ball, a spokesman for Ports of Auckland, told local media Stuff that the terminal would not reopen until at least 7pm today.

“The investigation is ongoing, and it is likely to be some time before the results are released. An inquiry by Worksafe into a similar accident at Port Otago in 2015 took nine months to complete,” Ball said.
