PPA warns further port congestion

Manila: The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has urged importers to step up the pace of their container withdrawals at the two Manila ports, Manila International Container Terminal (MICT) and Manila South Harbor (MSH), to prevent further port congestion during the 10-day holidays at the end of this year.

The PPA said that the non-working days of 24-28 December and 30 December – 4 January will prevent importers from taking out cargoes.

PPA general manager Juan C. Sta. Ana also urged all importers, brokers, truckers, freight forwarders and cargo owners to withdraw their cargoes early or double their volume withdrawals as a preemptive measure.

Currently, MICT has a yard utilisation of 84% while MSH has 77%. [17/12/14]
