Protester remains on Shell’s Arctic Challenger

Seattle: One of two protesters chained to Shell’s Arctic Challenger north of Seattle has left the ship. Shell’s plans to drill in the Arctic have sparked a series of protests. One protester remains on the Arctic Challenger’s anchor chain. She has been there since Friday, having hauled a hammock up the anchor chain where she is now perched.

The converted barge is part of Shell’s fleet heading north this summer for exploratory drilling in the Chukchi Sea off northwestern Alaska

The local Coast Guard has cited four owners or operators of protest vessels for violation of a 100-yard safety zone around the Arctic Challenger.
