Singapore: Fock Siew Wah, chairman of Singapore’s PSA International group, has been conferred with the distinction ‘Commander of the Order of the Crown’ from His Majesty King Philippe of Belgium.
The honour was awarded for “his merit, dedication and services rendered to the kingdom of Belgium,” PSA said.
Belgium’s Princess Astrid personally bestowed the award during a visit to PSA, as part of the Belgian Economic Mission in Singapore.
Members of the Belgian government and business community, senior PSA staff and ambassadors of Belgium and Singapore attended the ceremony.
“It is a rare honour to be conferred this distinction and it is something that I will always cherish in my heart. I receive this with gratefulness and a lot of deep feelings for Belgium,” Fock Siew Wah said at the ceremony.
“I believe it is also a deeper and greater recognition of our people in Belgium, Singapore and around the world where we have a presence, for their hard work and dedication.”
PSA has been active investor in the two main ports of Belgium, Antwerp and Zeebrugge, since 2002, when it acquired the local port stevedore Hesse-Noord Natie.
PSA’s Antwerp and Zeebrugge terminals handled around 8m TEU of containers last year in Belgium, the group’s biggest throughput outside of Singapore. [28/11/14]
