Doha: Qatar has the region’s highest valued fleet, according to statistics just released by VesselsValue.com. The Qatari merchant fleet is worth $7.54bn, thanks in large part to the fleet of LNG ships run by Qatargas. Qatar’s LNG fleet, which include the largest gas ships afloat (pictured), is worth some $7.02bn, according to the data from VesselsValue.com.
The United Arab Emirates, with a combined fleet worth $5.39bn is up next on VesselsValue.com’s regional roundup. The largest portion of this fleet is tankers followed by bulkers. Iran, Saudi Arabia and Oman make up the next positions.
The data was extrapolated from VesselsValue.com’s first report of the year, VV World Fleet Values which puts Greece in number one slot followed by Japan. [09/01/13]
