Quarter of digging complete for new Suez Canal

Cairo: Despite plenty of local reports that construction has been plagued by a number of leakages. Major General Kamel Al-Waziri, the chief of staff of the Armed Forces' Engineering Authority and supervisor of the New Suez Canal project, said that six places are, now ready for receiving dredgers as part of the second stage of the process.

Waziri noted that so far, about 40m cu m of sand has been lifted from the New Suez Canal, which means that 25% of new Suez Canal's dry digging is finished. He noted that the Al-Ballah branch would be expanded and digging sub-canals in a bid to boost tourism around Al-Temsah Lake in Ismailia.  [21/09/14]
