Quebec police use helicopter in new search for Amazoneborg crewman

Quebec police on Friday deployed a helicopter in their continuing efforts to find a missing merchant seaman.

The 23-year-old man, who Splash understands is from the Philippines, disappeared from Dutch cargo ship Amazoneborg on September 30 while it was docked at the port of Trois-Rivieres.

He was believed to have been checking the ship’s draft the last time he was seen.

Sergeant Eloise Cossette at the Trois-Rivieres office of Surete du Quebec, the province’s police force, told Splash on Friday: “Today we used a helicopter to try to locate clues to help find the missing man.

“The helicopter was looking over the St Lawrence River where the search is focused.

“We did not send out the scuba-diving team today.

“We have not released the missing man’s name or nationality to the media yet.”

The Amazoneborg is part of the fleet of Dutch company Royal Wagenborg.
