Record Posidonia defies the markets

Shipping and offshore might be going through a severe downturn, but there was no denying the fact this week that Posidonia 2016 felt genuinely busy. This has been borne out from the organisers of the Greek show who confirm the 25th edition of the event was a record in terms of exhibitors and attendance.

“Posidonia 2016 bidded farewell to over 22,000 shipping industry professionals who visited the world’s most prestigious maritime event to meet, network and do business with more than 1,800 exhibitors from 90 countries deployed across 40,000 sqm at Athens Metropolitan Expo this week,” the organisers said in a release today as the show closed.

The 14% increase in visitor numbers compared to the previous record-breaking edition two years ago.

“Posidonia 2016 has managed to set new records in floor space, number of conferences and seminars as well as visitor numbers showcasing the unrivalled appeal the event enjoys amongst the world’s maritime community,” said Theo Vokos, executive director, Posidonia Exhibitions, the event’s organiser.

The next big shipping event, SMM, takes place in Hamburg in September where Splash will also be reporting live from the event.
