Middle East

Region’s owners feature prominently in new tonnage rankings

Singapore: A new shipowner survey places Middle Eastern shipping lines as rising contenders in world shipping.

Maritime CEO, a sister title of this website, has teamed up with UK ship pricing system VesselsValue.com to bring readers an exclusive insight into the world’s 50 richest owners by tonnage owned.

Timed to coincide with the greatest shipowner gathering of them all, Posidonia, Maritime CEO has launched an annual roll call of the world’s wealthiest shipowners in terms of ships owned.

Readers can find out about the leading global fleets with details on value and size, broken down into ships afloat and on order. What’s more, this is just a start. While this inaugural list is derived from five sectors that VesselsValue.com currently tracks, going forward the data will become richer.

Six of the top 50 hail from the Middle East, a noticeable increase year-on-year. The highest placed Middle Eastern owner is Nakilat, which ranked 13th in Maritime CEO’s top 50 list. Nakilat also featured elsewhere in the feature as its QMax LNG carrier, Zarga, ranks as the most expensive afloat ship on the VesselsValue.com database, clocking in at $227.2m.

Richard Rivlin, CEO of VesselsValue.com, said the online ship pricing site will add offshore, car carriers and reefers by the end of the year.
