Remains of MOL Comfort sink

Muscat: After close to six full days of fire the fore part of the MOL Comfort containership has sunk. The remains of the ship was being towed towards Oman when a fire broke out on July 6. Mitsui OSK Lines, the owner of the 7,000 teu containership, said it will keep its appointed salvage team at the scene to monitor if there is any oil leakage and floating containers.  Most of the containers were reported yesterday as having been burnt out.

The MOL Comfort split in two on June 17 200 nautical miles off Yemen with the stern section sinking 10 days later. Investigations into how this five-year old ship could have suffered such a structural failure continue.  [11/07/13]
