Reputation counts when choosing a service provider

Despite the chastened times for most in shipping over the past decade when it comes to picking a class society, P&I Club or ship register, most shipowners polled on this site claim reputation is still the most important factor rather than price. Indeed, price comes a lowly third consideration in the ongoing survey with an owner’s relationship with his or her service provider also deemed more important than cost.

Among the eight questions posed in MarPoll, our quarterly online survey, we asked readers what was the most important thing they consider when choosing a class society, P&I Club or ship register. With still a month to go until the survey closes, reputation is the top answer to date.

Other questions posed in the topical shipping survey look at ultra large boxships, asset plays in 2019, the risks posed by a slowing Chinese economy and future fuels. MarPoll results will be carried in the next issue of Maritime CEO magazine, out next month.
