Rickmers poaches senior Oldendorff exec

Hamburg: Rickmers Group has poached a senior executive from fellow German shipping firm, Oldendorff Carriers.

Charles Scharffetter, 51, has been appointed ceo of the segment Maritime Services by Rickmers Group as of 1 August 2015. He will be a member of the extended board committee and report directly to the group ceo Dr Ignace Van Meenen.
Scharffetter had been with Oldendorff for 18 years and had risen to become a member of the executive board of directors.

“I am delighted to welcome Jan Scharffetter on board at this juncture in time”, said Van Meenen. “With his decades long experience in managing container vessels, reefers, tankers and bulk carriers he has proven his leadership with hard-core engineering skills and the ability to bring people together. This is exactly what Rickmers Shipmanagement needs as the company enters its next chapter of growth. In addition he is already familiar working within a shipping company with its roots in private ownership.”

Rickmers Shipmanagement has in the past month taken on the management of all of Masterbulk’s 16 open hatched bulkers.

Scharffetter takes over from Björn Sprotte, who will leave the company to take on a new position in a different area of the maritime industry.
