Romeo Group orders cement carrier at Ningbo Xinle

Genoa: Italian shipowners Giovanni and Vincenzo Romeo have just ordered a new 6,700 dwt cement carrier with delivery scheduled for 2017.

Splash can exclusively reveal that a newbuilding contract has been signed with Ningbo Xinle shipyard in China and is worth between $10m and $15m.

The Romeo family hails from Naples, but in 2010 the group moved almost all shipping activities to Switzerland, where Nova Marine Carriers shipping company has been based. Romeo Group historically has very close business relations with steel producers Duferco and cement producer Italcementi, but also regularly does business with other cement producers such as Lafarge Holcim, Cemex and Heidelberg.

Romeo’s Nova Marine operates a fleet of some 40 bulk carrier, which includes 5 cement carriers and 3 self unloaders.

In the last few days Romeo’s Sidernavi (100% owned by Nova Marine Holding) has been linked to the sale of small handy Sider Panarea (5,000 dwt, built 1998) to Turkish company Manta Shipping Transport for $1.85m.
