Rowan drillship given early termination by Anadarko

Rowan Companies has been given notice of early termination by Anadarko for 2014-built drillship Rowan Resolute.

The drillship, operating in the Gulf of Mexico on a day rate of $580k, will end operations on June 1 rather than the contracted date of August 6. Rowan says it expects to receive a lump sum payment of $27.7m related to the termination.

Rowan has also signed a contract extensions for a pair of jackup rigs. Rowan Stavanger has been extended by Repsol Norge for an additional 150 days at an undisclosed rate, while Bob Palmer has been extended by Saudi Aramco until February 28.

Another jackup rig, the Ralph Coffman has been awarded a new contract with GulfSlope Energy in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico commencing June 1 and estimated at around 120 days.
