Rowan lands new contract for idle jackup rig

Rowan Companies, which is in the middle of a $12bn combination with Ensco, has been awarded a new one-well contract for jackup rig Rowan EXL III.

The new contract is in the Gulf of Mexico with McMoRan, and scheduled to begin this month. The rig has been idle since mid-August, however after it completes the McMoRan contract it will go on to commence a six-month contract with Cantium.

Additionally, LLOG has exercised the first of two options for drillship Rowan Resolute. The drillship has been on contract to LLOG in the Gulf of Mexico since mid-June on a three-well deal. It will now be on contract until December 2018.
