Rulings to favour Indonesian yards

Jakarta: Indonesia’s cabotage ruling for offshore ships has buoyed the nation’s shipbuilding industry.

Industry Ministry director for maritime and engineering Soerjono reckons the nation’s yards will see a rise in orders from next year, especially as there are now additional incentives in place from last month for energy firms who decide to use Indonesian built vessels.

The Indonesia Ship Building and Offshore Association reckons these new rulings will allow energy firms to claw back 20% of their annual Indonesian chartering bills.  [27/02/13]
