Saab selected to upgrade Hong Kong’s VTS system

Hong Kong: Sweden’s Saab has been awarded the contract to completely renew the existing Hong Kong Vessel Traffic Services system for HK$400m. The upgrade will be finished by 2016.

Following a spate of collisions, including a number of deaths from a ferry disaster, Hong Kong’s Marine Department has been investigating how to improve safety at its very busy port.

Saab put in place Hong Kong’s most recent VTS back in 2002. The new version will incorporate sensor technologies , multi-sensor data fusion and display processing systems.  [10/10/14]
