Sabah ranks Kota Kinabalu as transhipment hub

Kuala Lumpur: The Federation of Sabah Industries has urged the national government to look at transforming Kota Kinabalu into a second transhipment hub after Port Klang to help reduce transportation costs.

Currently, Sabah cargoes have to be transshipped to Port Klang and the shippers have to pay for the return journey.

The federation said Sepangar port should be transformed into a genuine transhipment hub as its location is ideal for trade with China, Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan and Australia.  [02/07/14]
