Saipem awarded $190m worth of new contracts

Italian offshore services firm Saipem has been awarded several new contracts, led by semi-submersible rig Scarabeo 8, worth a total of around $190m.

The 2012-built Scarabeo 8 has been awarded several new contracts operating off Norway. Initially, the rig will be used for the drilling of an option well with Norske Shell and then goes on contract to Total E&P Norge for another one well. The rig will then go on contract with Aker BP for the drilling of four wells with options for a further two wells.

Saipem has also been awarded a decommissioning project by ConocoPhillips located in the UK sector of the North Sea.

Lastly, the company has been awarded a new project in the Arabian Gulf, for the engineering, construction, offshore installation and commissioning of a new crude transmission line. The contract has been awarded by Aramco Gulf Operations Company and Kuwait Gulf Oil Company.

“The new contracts in offshore drilling confirm the strategy of the company in this segment, aimed at consolidating relationships, including with new customers, while awaiting a further recovery of this market. Moreover, through the new awards in offshore E&C, Saipem is further reinforcing its presence and solid expertise in a strategic businesses such as decommissioning,” commented Stefano Cao, CEO of Saipem.
