Saipem to set up spool-base in the US

Italian offshore contractor Saipem has announced that it will establish a spool-base on Greenwood Island, Mississippi, to support pipelay vessel Saipem Constellation.

The Saipem spool-base will be located within the facilities of ST Engineering Halter Marine & Offshore via a long-term agreement, and equipped with advanced welding machines, non-destructive testing facilities, and field joint coating systems.

With a particular focus on the Gulf of Mexico, the base will support the Saipem Constellation (formerly Lewek Constellation), a vessel which Sapem acquired for $275m last year

Giorgio Martelli, president and CEO of Saipem America, commented: “The spool-base supports Saipem’s growth in the deep water field development sector as well as consolidating the importance of our activities in the Gulf of Mexico area, with a locally-based approach and resident assets.”
