Saipem wins $400m Ivory Coast drilling contract

Italy’s Saipem has landed a drilling contract worth $400m with Eni and Petroci joint venture for operations offshore the Ivory Coast.

The Milan-headquartered firm said the deal includes the use of the recently chartered seventh-generation drillship Deep Value Driller.

Saipem noted the contract value is to be considered gross of the leasing costs of the 2014-built rig. Norway-based Deep Value Driller said last month the three-year contract would add around $160m of firm revenue backlog, excluding the rate payable for any optional extensions.

“The award of this contract represents an important consolidation of Saipem’s presence in the Ivory Coast, a strategic area where the company is currently executing the project for the development of the oil and gas field Baleine,” the company said. The field was discovered thanks to the drilling activities of the Saipem 10000 and Saipem 12000 vessels.
