Salvors try to cool burning ship off the Canary Islands

Salvors Resolve Marine have been called in to assist in controlling a fire onboard a Bibby Line bulker.

Crew were evacuated on Monday off the Cheshire which is carrying fertilizer and is now drifting to the south of the Canary Islands.

The fire was first reported on Sunday onboard the UK-flagged vessel, but the ship was denied entry to Las Palmas.

On Monday morning the ship suffered a series of explosions and two Spanish search and rescue helicopters were deployed to take the 24 crew off the burning vessel.

Resolve Marine is now trying to cool the cargo, sending in water to the affected holds.
