Shanghai: Samsung Heavy Industries Ningbo has signed a letter of intent with Greek owner Evangelos Marinakis for the construction of two 52,000dwt MR tankers with two more options.
The price for each vessel is about $32m, and the official contract is expected to be signed in next month. The delivery of the vessels will start from 2015. The Korean yard had been using its Ningbo facility primarily as a block builder but as offshore and LNG orders stack up at home it has decided to reopen marketing for newbuilds at Ningbo.
Evangelos Marinakis also plans to place an order for another two 52,000dwt MR tankers at Guangzhou Shipyard International. [22/05/13]
