Sandstorm whips up maritime chaos in Egypt
Cairo: A fierce sandstorm that has lashed Egypt since Tuesday continues to cause maritime traffic concerns. So fierce was the storm that the Suez Canal shut down yesterday although it was expected to reopen today. The storm will last through to Saturday although it is weakening.
At least two ports in the Mediterranean, Alexandria and Al-Dekheila, remain closed for the third day in a row for safety concerns.
Yesterday the Egyptian navy rescued a Moldovan registered buler which broke down a few kilometres off the Mediterranean coast. The navy helped the ship, Delphina, to anchor in Abu Qir port.
