Santana looks to rebuild fleet

Hong Kong: Hong Kong handysize owner Santana Shipping is looking to regrow its fleet. The private company sold off its fleet of ten vessels ahead of the 2008 crash and spent four years out of shipowning before dipping its toes back in the sector in August 2012, snapping up a seven year old 31,000 dwt bulker. Santana’s director William Swigart, speaking to our sister site Maritime CEO, said he is looking for additional acquisitions, however he felt ship prices had not fallen as low as they should have done, thanks to the entrance of so much non-traditional capital into shipping in the past couple of years.
