Scorpio Bulkers gets newbuilding discount, delays deliveries

Scorpio Bulkers has negotiated a $13m discount on the combined contract price for six China-built newbuildings, which will each be delivered up to three months later than scheduled initially.

The discount will be applied to the contracts for four kamsarmax bulk carriers on order at Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard and two ultramaxes on order at Chengxi.

The vessels were originally slated for delivery between September and November this year, but Scorpio has delayed their arrival until between October and January 2017.

The NYSE-listed owner is due to pay $59.1m to the shipyards in early 2017, rather than during the fourth quarter this year, as scheduled previously.
