Seabird wins seismic survey contract in northern Europe

SeaBird Exploration has won a contract to conduct a 2D multi-client seismic survey in north-west Europe this summer.

The project will commence in the second quarter and will run for two to three weeks, the Oslo-listed company said today. No further details about the contract were disclosed.

Last week, the Limassol-based company also signed a contract for undershoot work in the North Sea, which is due to commence in the third quarter for approximately three weeks.

Meanwhile, Seabird has submitted proposals for source vessel and 2D contracts “for both oil companies and other seismic industry market players”.

“While there are a number of opportunities under review, contracting has generally been delayed due to permitting, prefunding and/or budget concerns. The current market uncertainty makes it difficult to predict the level of contract coverage that is possible to obtain beyond the company’s current firm backlog,” Seabird said in its 4Q 2015 results, published on February 26.

Five of Seabird’s eight survey vessels are employed in the Mexico Gigante survey in the US Gulf. Its other three vessels are currently in lay-up.
