Seadrill delays drillship pair at DSME

John Fredriksen’s Seadrill has come to an agreement with Korean yard DSME to defer the delivery of two ultra-deepwater drillships.

The two vessels, West Aquila and West Libra, will now be delivered in the second quarter of 2018 and first quarter of 2019 respectively. The drillships were originally scheduled to deliver in the second quarter of 2016, saving Seadrill from paying out the final instalments worth over $800m.

In August last year, Seadrill delayed the delivery of another two drillships it has under construction at Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries until the end of the first quarter of 2017. At the same time it also deferred eight jack-up rigs under construction at the yard.
