SeaMall: Club together to cut costs

Svendborg: “Call us today and your operation expenses will be reduced in less than one month from now.” That’s the proud boast on the LinkedIn group of SeaMall, a Danish organisation, which claims members can make net savings on vital shipping necessities of up to 30%. The idea behind it is a simple one – club together for greater bargaining power, with the people at SeaMall keeping a firm eye on prices of key products needed onboard. With big names in the shipping industry such as Clipper, Pacific Basin and Nordic Tankers signed up, the bargaining power of the grouping is huge, with combined fleets numbering hundreds of ships.
Per Nykjaer Jensen, the president, ceo and partner of this three-and-a-half year old purchasing association tells Maritime CEO that SeaMall works with a range of products – lubes, paint, spares –  and provides special projects for new demands coming up like lube savings engine performance control and trim optimizers. SeaMall also offers competitive prices for mandated kit such as Ecdis and ballast water treatment systems.
“We are a members club that aggregates large purchase volumes for efficient contracting,” he explains.
The aim now, says Jensen, is to enroll more members from across the world and to “consolidate a real large fleet”.
