Sembcorp bounces back with US$434m twin rig order at PPL

Singapore: Sembcorp Marine has announced that PPL Shipyard has secured turnkey contracts for the construction of two jackup rigs from Integradora de Servicios Petroleros Oro Negro at a combined value of US$434 million.

The rigs will be built based on PPL Shipyard’s PPL Pacific Class 400 design and are scheduled for delivery by end of 4th quarter 2013 and end of 1st quarter 2014. The rigs will be capable of operating in deeper waters of 400 feet and will be equipped to drill high pressure and high temperature wells to depths of 30,000 feet.

Douglas Tan, md of PPL Shipyard said “The jack-up rig order is a reflection of the optimism that the owner has in the jack-up rig market and in particular our design and our ability to deliver on schedule and within budget.”

Sembcorp Marine has endured a difficult week after Monday’s accident at Jurong Shipyard where 89 workers were hospitalized when a failed braking system on one of the moveable legs of a jack up rig caused the structure, Noble Regina Allen, to tilt. [07/12/12]
