Dalian: Shandong Shipping Corporation has officially signed a contract with Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Industry to construct four 250,000dwt VLOCs.
Shandong Shipping had earlier signed a ten-year iron ore shipping contract with Australian mining conglomerate BHP Billiton.
“The four VLOCs we just ordered will be used to transport BHP’s iron ore and they will increase our total capacity to 2.36m dwt,” said Zhao Xianfu, vice general manager of Shandong Shipping.
All the vessels will be delivered and put into operation in the next three years. [08/05/13]
