Shanghai confidence index slips further

Shanghai: The latest confidence survey carried out by the Shanghai International Shipping Institute shows the Chinese shipping industry remains concerned about prospects, especially those involved in dry bulk.

Quarter on quarter the survey showed a worsening mood among those polled. Port operators and liners were more optimistic and for shipping service providers it appeared their mood had bottomed out. Bulker owners however remain seriously in the doldrums.

The confidence index for the third quarter is predicted to decline further, with three quarters of those polled suggesting there will be no proper market turnaround until 2014.  [12/07/12]
