Shanghai: There are now over 3000 shipping service companies and 20 major industry bodies and institutions headquartered in Shanghai North Bund, according to Sun Jianping, Party secretary of Shanghai's Hongkou district.
The cumulative investment for the fast growing area with the ambition to develop itself as the international finance and shipping hub has reached RMB26bn (US$4.1bn) for major projects to date.
"Usually, the simple throughput of a port is highlighted. However, we care more about the port's ability to allocate resources where they are needed best, especially improving high-end services for the shipping sector," Sun said to China Daily. [30/08/12]
